Styled head-to-toe, the Yorkdale Prom Ambassadors look absolutely enchanting.

Working with the four Yorkdale Prom Ambassadors was so much fun. In fact, it was the most fun we’ve had this Spring! Not only did we get to know four lovely young ladies, but we played dress up and became totally inspired by their unique individual style to create our very own looks.

Check out the gorgeous pics from our early am Yorkdale photo shoot; Kate, Lin, Nilou and Madelyn look dreamy! For fun, we’ve broken down their looks head-to-toe so you can see where each piece came from, from the dress to the sparkly clutches.

Whether you are going for classic and elegant or edgy-rebel chic, you’ll definitely find your perfect Prom look at Yorkdale. Discovering your own style is fun and an exciting way to further discover who you are; be daring, be creative, enjoy the adventure and ROCK YOUR PROM!

Yorkdale Prom Ambassador Kate takes inspiration from Audrey Hepburn and heads to Tiffany for some prom movie magic

While Madelyn has bought her dress but not the accessories, Kate has done the opposite! She’s made the trip to both Swarovski and Tiffany in Yorkdale and will match her classic jewelery with an elegant Old Hollywood style dress. She loved the Holt Renfrew gown in kelly green that we styled her in for our initial Yorkale photo shoot but has also been crushing on a tangerine strapless from BCBG Max Azria. DECISIONS!!! Kate, whatever you decide, we know you’ll look beautiful; and that bling you bought will never go out of style.

On a recent trip to New York City, I found myself outside the Tiffany & Co. flagship story, channeling Audrey Hepburn as I posed for photos. I knew that Tiffany was the first place I wanted to go at Yorkdale. I love that Tiffany has good-quality, well-designed jewelry. What I was looking for is something classic and elegant, but with a bit of bling. I wanted something that can be worn with just about anything, and that will last a long time. I found just that in this silver band ring with a diamond from the Elsa Peretti® collection.

I’m accompanying my ring with a pair of dangling Swarovski earrings. I’m a big fan of crystal because it goes with everything, and fits in with the silver look I’m aiming for with my accessories. I also like drop earrings because they grab attention and accentuate my long neck. These ones are simple, chic, and sparkly.

There are some amazing dresses to be found in the spring collections of Yorkdale retailers and I’m especially smitten with this tangerine, corset-top gown with a leg slit from BCBG Max Azria. The colour is amazing, and it shows just the right amount of skin.

I loved the Holt Renfrew ABS dress for many reasons. It had straps, which I think sets it apart from the sea of sweetheart necklined, strapless prom dresses. It also eliminates the concern of having a wardrobe malfunction at prom! I adored the jewel-tone green colour; especially with my blonde locks. I loved the way the dress was structured— namely, the shoulders and the cinched waist seemed very Grecian.

When it comes to a purse and shoes, I’m headed for Aldo, and maybe Town Shoes or Browns. I’m going for silver or white heels, like these.

In the same way I’m faithful to stilettos, a clutch is the only evening bag you’ll ever see me with. I’m looking for something like these for prom:

Finally, I have to impart the last of my prom tips. Wear your shoes around the house for a few days, or else stuff socks in them overnight to break them in. Make sure your dress is hemmed to the right length, so you’re not tripping on it come prom night. Remember to pack your purse with your cell, any make-up you might want to reapply (read: lipstick), a bit of cash just in case, and maybe a couple of extra bobby pins. Most importantly, though, remember that prom is really just a party. Don’t put too much pressure on it. Just enjoy the night, and have fun!

Yorkdale Prom Ambassador Lin advises statement necklaces and metal mixing for a formal look that really stands out

Yorkdale Prom Ambassador Lin doesn’t need much to stand out in a crowd. I mean, she already has blue hair. That said, there are always ways to add drama and an edgy feel to a formal look. Like Lin, we are totally of the belief that you can take any prom look and really make it your own. All you need is imagination. Here, Lin breaks down some easy ways to break the dress code and really own it.

Just because prom is formal doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and inject some of your personality into your look.  While I agree that straying too far from the prom dress-code could be disastrous, there are definitely ways to work your way around it.  There should be no doubt that you look glam and are dressed formally in the beautiful ‘it’ dress you choose, but have some fun with the accessories!

Add some pop with colour!

Having a pop of colour with your shoes or clutch (if you’re really daring, maybe even your lipstick colour choice!) can definitely bring more interest to anyone’s prom look.

Dare to wear a statement necklace.

Statement necklaces can also bring a little more flare to anyone’s prom look.  Just watch out for your dress neckline, you don’t want to wear a nice eye-catching necklace if it takes away from the neckline cut of your dress! (Statement necklaces especially won’t work with off the shoulder dresses, the symmetry is going to look all wrong and lopsided!)

Fashion is like art, express yourself!

Ultimately it comes down to your personality, as it should when it comes to getting dressed for any occasion.  Dress expressively and don’t be afraid to let your personality show through your clothing choices.  If you’re a sweet and elegant girl try some simple jewelry that isn’t overly chunky or glitzed out.  For our more rock and roll chicks, anything that is subtly studded is always a good option.  Don’t get too crazy with the studs though, you have to remember as much as you might want to kick off your heels and mosh around you’re still at a formal event, just looking a little more edgy then the next chick.

Confidence is always the best accessory!

Having the second opinion of a trusted individual always helps out before making final decisions or big purchases so don’t hesitate—ask  your friend! Just remember to have fun with your look and make it your own, confidence is your best accessory! There aren’t too many occasions in life where you really get to make a grand entrance. Be daring. Have fun. And rock your prom!

Getting to know Yorkdale Prom Ambassador Kate

Photo by Angie Choi EYEKAHFOTO (Click to Enlarge)

For Kate, a floor-length dress is a must! But no colour-blocking for this blonde, she’ll stick to the lavender and mint hues that are on trend this season.

What excites you most about being selected to be a Yorkdale Prom Ambassador?

First, let me confess that I’m not a prom virgin. Scandalous, I know. I went to my boyfriend’s prom two years ago. It was amazing, but, honestly, there were a couple of things I would’ve done differently, which is why I’m excited to have a second chance at it! I really hope that I can share with others the things I wish someone had told me back then, so they can have the perfect prom experience the first time around.

Do you have a style icon?

While I’ve always been one to stick to my own style, I have to admit that I’ve been keeping an eye on Kate Beckinsale lately. And not just because of her name!

What spring fashion trends are you loving right now?

I think I speak for all pale-skinned people when I say pastels, hands down. Leave the neon colour-blocking to those of darker complexions; I’ll be sporting mint and lavender all season long, thank you very much.

Which Yorkdale stores do you want to raid for prom?

I’m a big fan of Aldo shoes. I’ve also found some really nice purses there, as well as Town Shoes. For jewelry, I tend to prefer places like Swarovski, European Jewellery, and Tiffany & Co.

What dress style are you on the hunt for?

I love long evening dresses, so for me, floor-length is a must. The colour has to be bright enough to play up my blonde hair, but not so much that it washes out my paper-white skin. I want one detail that sets it apart from the fifty other dresses that will be around mine on prom night. But, you know, in a good way.

What three words would you choose to describe your perfect prom night?

I’d go with relaxing, romantic, and rain-free. Good answers!

Okay, hypothetical question….you can have any date in the whole wide world, who is it going to be?

Yikes, I’d have to say my boyfriend! Does that make me a lame, hopeless romantic? Oh, well… Hey, there is nothing wrong with being a hopeless romantic!

What is the one song that will definitely get you on the dance floor?

Party Rock Anthem. I challenge anyone to sit down while listening to that song.

Do you have a favourite prom flick?

The original Footloose. Prom and Kevin Bacon dancing: two of my favourite things.

As Yorkdale Prom Ambassador, what will you share with readers that you think will help them most for their prom?

How not to do prom. As in, please, learn from the mistakes I made when I went two years ago. Test out salons, give yourself enough time to get ready, and, above all, don’t put too much pressure on what’s supposed to be a fun night. Wait, no, I thought of something even more important: never, under any circumstances, start shopping for a dress four weeks before prom. You hear me? Never.

If you were in charge of picking a theme for your prom, what would you choose?

Duct Tape. I’m always so in awe of those duct tape prom dresses people do. I’d love to see an entire prom decked out with the stuff. Well, that’s original!

If you could time travel, which decade would you want to experience prom in?

I have to say the 50s. Poodle-skirt prom dresses? Yes, please!

Kate, if we could, we would wrap you in a duct tape dress and put you in a time machine back to 1955. However, since that may not be possible, we will instead help you find the perfect floor-length dress and something sparkly from Swarovski. Who says you can’t shake it to Party Rock Anthem in an elegant gown? Kevin Bacon would approve.
