Style Profile: Samantha

Where did you buy the clothes that you’re wearing?
I bought both of these outfits at Forever 21.

How would you best describe your style?
Fun and girly, I’m not afraid to use bright colours!

What’s the one thing you can’t leave the house without?
A cute pair of flats because they work with almost every outfit.

What style advice would you give to other girls your age?
Stay true to yourself. Dress the way you want to dress, not how other people want you to.

New pop star Moxiie gets us dancing with her awesome sound and tells us a little bit about herself: her pet peeves, what makes her happiest, her favourite movie and MORE!

Moxiie is about to take over the scene with her jungle pop; her new fusion definitely has us dancing. If you crank up Dancing in Dirt and Animal we guarantee you’ll be hopping out of your chair to have a spontaneous dance party with your gal pals. This girl is about to take charge! But first she answered some of our questions.

Your album is called Jungle Pop; what is jungle pop?
Jungle Pop is a fusion of world music, pop and electro. I decided to title the EP Jungle Pop to mark the genre’s existence.

How would you describe your personal style?
I’d have to say my personal style is just that, personal. It’s pop, it’s alternative, aggressive at times but still chill. It’s just me.

If you were an animal what would you be and why?
I’d probably be a Lion….pretty high on the food chain.

If you were stranded on a desert island what would you NEED to have with you?
My family and machetes.

Your friends are coming over for Saturday night dinner what do you cook them?
OMG!  I love to cook! I’d probably make a spicy shrimp salad as an appetizer, baked mango salmon, and I’d fake dessert with purchased mini all butter pound cakes, with a rum cream cheese glaze, bananas and walnuts. I actually wanted to be a chef at one point. I used to cook for my brother and sister. If you’re wondering about the seafood, I’m a pescetarian.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Public nail clipping is my absolute BIGGEST pet peeve. I don’t understand why anyone thinks it’s ok.

What makes you the happiest?
I’m happiest when I’m making music, following my gut, eating well, in touch with my family and staying active. I actually get a bit depressed without a good sweat session for more than 2 weeks.

What would we find you doing on a Sunday afternoon?
This is a funny question, yesterday (Sunday) you would have found me painting a shelf and taking lots of breaks to dance all crazy to music on the active 80′s french podcast. Haha, I can have fun in a paper bag.

What is your favourite movie of the past year?
I actually just saw Girl Interrupted last year. I’ve had a couple friends tell me I have Girl Interrupted moments in the past, so I had to check it out. Loved it. Wynona Ryder and Angelina Jolie were incredible!

What music are you currently listening to?
I’ve been listening to a LOT of Pink’s Fun House ballads, and by that I mean Glitter In The Air and Crystal Ball on repeat, Jay-Z & Kanye, White Stripes’ We Are Going To Be Friends, The Band Perry – If I Die Young & Sia with David Guetta on Titanium. I get into these loops, where I’m obsessed with a few songs for like 2 months.

Where is the last place you took a plane to and why?
Last place I took a plane to was London to work on music; the best part of that trip was my guerrilla style first visit to Paris. It changed me.

Girl Crush of the Month: Florence Welch

Florence Welch, British singer-songwriter and front-woman for indie pop band Florence + The Machine, is one rad rocker chick. With her uninhibited stage presence and arresting voice, a way with words that pierces your heart (“A falling star fell from your heart/And landed in my eyes/I screamed aloud as it tore through them/And now it’s left me blind” um, what?) and an eclectic boho style that includes fringed bodysuits, sparkly shorts, flowing maxi dresses and towering heels, this passionate performer is like Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks and Patti Smith all rolled into one powerful, fiery red-haired, glamorous earth goddess.

We read somewhere that she calls her style “scary, gothic, bat lady” but we love the way she wears whatever she damn well pleases. Whether it’s a cute printed dress with brogues or denim short shorts with a plaid button down shirt and an ’80s blazer, she’s got mad style, however she plays it. She pays no attention to trends, choosing instead to wear what SHE likes and that’s what makes her look so personal and unique. It comes from within and reflects her personality. It’s gothic, romantic, dramatic – it’s her. Plus we love that signature red hair and lipstick HARD. Florence knows how to stand out from the crowd and we totally can’t get enough of her.
